Young Leaders in Diabetes

Young Leaders in Diabetes Young Leaders in Diabetes (YLD) is an IDF initiative that empowers young people living with diabetes to become advocates, leaders, and active contributors to the diabetes community. In the IDF MENA Region, YLD provides opportunities for young people to connect, share experiences, develop leadership skills, and participate in diabetes awareness, advocacy, education, and community activities. The programme aims to build the next generation of diabetes leaders and ensure that the voices and experiences of young people are represented in regional and global diabetes initiatives.

KiDS Programme

The IDF MENA Diabetes Kids Program aims to support children and young people living with diabetes across the Middle East and North Africa by promoting diabetes awareness, education, inclusion, and peer support. The programme provides opportunities for children and families to learn more about diabetes management, build confidence, connect with others, and participate in educational and community activities. Through collaboration with member associations and regional partners, the programme works to empower children with diabetes and create a supportive environment where every child can live a healthy, active, and fulfilling life.

World Diabetes Day 2025
education

World Diabetes Day 2025

World Diabetes Day 2025 World Diabetes Day 2025 brought together the diabetes community across the Middle East and North Africa to raise awareness of diabetes and promote better prevention, care, and support for people living with the condition. The IDF MENA Region supported and promoted activities led by its member associations, healthcare professionals, partners, and communities throughout the region. These activities helped highlight the importance of diabetes awareness, early detection, healthy lifestyles, access to quality care, and empowering people with diabetes. Through regional collaboration and coordinated action, IDF MENA continues to strengthen the collective response to diabetes and amplify the message that diabetes care and prevention require everyone to play a role. Each year on 14 November, the global community observes World Diabetes Day (WDD), an awareness campaign initiated by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) together with the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1991 to combat the rising burden of diabetes. For 2025, WDD’s theme is “Diabetes and Well-being”, with a focused sub-campaign calling for action on “Diabetes and the workplace” (World Diabetes Day).

Diabetes prevention
education

Diabetes prevention

Diabetes Prevention The IDF MENA Region is committed to reducing the burden of diabetes through effective prevention, early detection, and health promotion across the Middle East and North Africa. We support member associations and partners in promoting healthy lifestyles, physical activity, healthy nutrition, weight management, and awareness of diabetes risk factors. Through educational programmes, community initiatives, campaigns, and knowledge sharing, IDF MENA encourages individuals and communities to take action to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. By strengthening collaboration and prevention efforts across the region, IDF MENA works towards healthier communities and a future with fewer cases of preventable diabetes.Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented, but research is ongoing to determine its environmental triggers. While type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented, there are several steps people can take to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
