Federal Minister of Health meets President of the International Diabetes Federation for the MENA Region and President of the Sudanese Diabetes Union

Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim chaired a special meeting on the Diabetes Control Program in Sudan, attended by Professor Mohamed Ali Eltoum, President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) for the Middle East and North Africa Region and President of the Sudanese Diabetes Union. Also present were Dr. Musab Siddig, Director General of Primary Health Care, and Dr. Haider Mohamed Abdelnabi, Director of Curative Medicine. The Minister affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting associations working to combat diabetes and treat its complications, noting that the goal is to reduce the spread of the disease, which has reached a rate of 12%, in addition to enhancing the quality of services provided to patients, especially at primary healthcare centers, and developing the referral system. He thanked them for their efforts in supporting diabetes patients, especially children, and for providing insulin and supporting cold chain systems through partners with approximately ten million dollars during the war period. For his part, Professor Mohamed Ali Eltoum explained that the meeting discussed plans to combat diabetes on both emergency and strategic levels, noting that this was his second visit to Sudan to follow up on the humanitarian campaign for diabetes care, following his first visit last December. He announced the opening of the Abdullah Khalil Diabetes Center in Omdurman next Saturday, alongside the rehabilitation of the Jabir Abu Al-Ezz Pediatric Diabetes Center, and the rehabilitation of seven diabetes units in primary healthcare centers in Khartoum, with a similar number in River Nile and Northern states. He also mentioned a medicine distribution campaign supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. In addition, Dr. Musab Siddig, Director General of Primary Health Care, commended the humanitarian campaign launched in Khartoum, Northern, and River Nile states, stressing the importance of joint coordination and integration among relevant entities. He also emphasized the plan to integrate diabetes curricula into all levels of primary healthcare, in cooperation with the Diabetes Care Association.
